Student Business Manager

PRactical ADvantage Communications, the student-run advertising and public relations agency in the Department of Communications, seeks a detail-oriented and responsible student to serve as Student Business Manager. This position is available for fall 2019 and can continue into spring 2020.
This is a part-time, minimum wage, student employment position (not work study) with no benefit package. The position involves approximately 100 hours of work each semester, at the Irvine Center, on Tuesdays and Thursdays when agency classes are in session. A specific work schedule will be established upon hiring and can be flexible based on the successful candidate’s class schedule.
The Student Business Manager is responsible for overseeing business functions of the student-run agency (COMM 474) and assuring the individual students and student work teams meet their obligations to the agency and their clients. Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are essential. Basic business knowledge is also essential, as this position involves dealing with client agreements, invoices, receipts, time management software and spreadsheets for data reporting.
Applications will only be accepted from CSUF graduate or undergraduate students in good academic standing. Applications from students in the College of Communications or College of Business and Economics are strongly preferred. Because this position is CSUF IRA funded, the Student Business Manager MAY NOT be enrolled in COMM 474 while employed in this position.
Because this position involves demonstration of professional-level business communication skills, applications that are disorganized or poorly written will immediately be disqualified.

Specific duties include:
- Work with student teams to assure 100% compliance with agency requirements for completion and submission of all business documents, to include Client Services Agreements, client contact sheets, invoices, student conduct commitment forms, photo releases, and any other documents as required by individual instructors. Keep track of all documents in hard copy and online form.
- Set up student log-ins for web-based FunctionFox time management software, assuring that every student has credentials to access FunctionFox. Monitor use of the program to assure that every student has been provided with training resources and is utilizing the full functionality of the system. Provide technical assistance and problem-solving to students as needed.
- Monitor the agency email account and Google Drive cloud storage. Assist teams in the appropriate upload of documentation of client services to team folders. Assist teams in the appropriate use of email and archiving of past messages to allow the system to be used efficiently and productively by all students. Provide technical assistance and problem-solving to students as needed.
- Help maintain student-run agency lab security by assuring the lab remains locked, and access by non-agency students is prevented. Assist with lab computer hardware and software operation issues as they develop. Liaison with IRVC technical support to identify and resolve problems in the lab.
- Conduct regular inventories of supplies and project future supply needs.
- Work with the faculty to assure the firm’s administrative operations are businesslike, efficient, and support the tasks students are assigned in the agency classes.
